Was just reading an article in The Star talking about the new plan for Toronto to become amongst the few cities in the world to be one giant wifi hotspot, or cloud as some like to call them. Essentially, a ubiquitous signal that lets any wireless enabled device access to the network, anywhere. It is not Roger’s or Bell (who presumaby will not be happy with this) that are providing the service. It is Toronto Hydro. Plans are to install transmitters on every 4th or 5th lightpost in the city.
Not only does it just sound damn cool, the article talks about the ability to provide the services to low-income torontonians which I just think sounds nice.
