wow. Orb. Basically some nifty technology that lets you use a home computer as a streaming server. Great for those times that you are travelling with work, or just away from your home and want to watch/listen/look at something from your home machine. Orb lets you set up a little piece of software to run on your pc. You can then log in from anywhere that has a [relatively quick] internet connection and get the goods.
The biggest bonus I see here is the ability to hook in your cable TV to the setup. (Think being at work during the final game of the world cup and not being able to watch the match). You can now! Simply login to your my.orb account and your home machine (that you previously set up to stream television) will generously let you watch the game. Nice! Above this, you can specify directories for prerecorded movies, music, and photos that you can enjoy wherever you may be.
I have set up a little test site so you can check it out in action. The files that you see are sitting here, at my home in Toronto.

I dont have my cable tv set up yet but you can check a few audio tracks and videos just to get a feel for it. Directly below the TV section, you’ll see audio, photo, and video sections. These are where your local files are. I think it is intended to serve as a personal service rather than a public sharing service but I just set something up for you to check out.
If for some reason the files aren’t working, it is probably because my machine is off.
