winter training the right way

Tacx has put out a pretty hot little training tool. The main setup involves Virtual Reality setups that let you virtually cycle through the alps, or mallorca. Ride the tour of flanders, right in your livingroom.  The full setup adjusts difficulty to correspond to where you are in the course.. cool! Or you can just grab the videos and train away. I think all it needs is a set of vr glasses and would be the ideal Canadian winter training program.

another carbon titanium mix

29-Mar-06

eliumL.jpg

Similar to Lenond’s Carbon/Ti mix, the logic here is to offer the benefits of both materials in one package. Smooth absorbing ride of carbon with the stiffness of Titanium where it matters. A few friends ride the Lemond frames and have nothing but good to say about them. They are actually carbon/aluminum mixes and not titanium but if the logic works with aluminum, i don’t see why it wouldn’t with titanium.

“The Elium SG features carbon in the frame’s upper half and titanium in the lower to offer the best combination of each material’s qualities and benefits. The carbon reduces weight and provides damping. The titanium enhances durability and impact resistance, while ensuring quick acceleration and connectedness to the road. “

orb

wow. Orb. Basically some nifty technology that lets you use a home computer as a streaming server. Great for those times that you are travelling with work, or just away from your home and want to watch/listen/look at something from your home machine. Orb lets you set up a little piece of software to run on your pc. You can then log in from anywhere that has a [relatively quick] internet connection and get the goods.

The biggest bonus I see here is the ability to hook in your cable TV to the setup. (Think being at work during the final game of the world cup and not being able to watch the match). You can now! Simply login to your my.orb account and your home machine (that you previously set up to stream television) will generously let you watch the game. Nice! Above this, you can specify directories for prerecorded movies, music, and photos that you can enjoy wherever you may be.

I have set up a little test site so you can check it out in action. The files that you see are sitting here, at my home in Toronto.

I dont have my cable tv set up yet but you can check a few audio tracks and videos just to get a feel for it. Directly below the TV section, you’ll see audio, photo, and video sections. These are where your local files are. I think it is intended to serve as a personal service rather than a public sharing service but I just set something up for you to check out.

If for some reason the files aren’t working, it is probably because my machine is off.

mtv canada

22-Mar-06

wow. just watching mtv. i think it opened yesterday. i haven’t seen enough to really form an opinion, but what I have already noticed are the sweet motion graphic openers and branding spots. uber creative stuff, with a fresh look (for canadian tv anyway). Ive seen creative stings and such in the u.k. and france.. and possibly switzerland, but thoroughly unimpressed with the look and feel of most of the stuff I see on our televisions. I’ll probably get into more detail in a later post but check the channel out anyway. i thought that mtv was all music videos, but was listening to cbc tonight and I guess it’s not. excited to see what comes of it. in the mean time, i’ll be keeping an eye on the motion graphics!

nuit blanche – toronto edition

nuit_blanche_adlethome.gif

I was pretty happy to read that Toronto will be having it’s very own nuite blanche this year. I posted earlier about Montreal’s version (which I in fact did not make it to this year). See here for that.

It is currently in development and there is a call to all artists, musicians, installations… all things entertaining. A good time to get in touch with them if you want to be involved. If it is anything like the Montreal version it should be a wonderfull event. It is scheduled for the end of September so lots of time to get your ideas ready and to make preperations. (more…)
